The Story Behind “Petty” – A Year in the Making
After working on this song for a year through many life changes, it’s finally coming into the world. “Petty” started with a simple moment of frustration with family that turned into something musical.
One day, I was on a call with my friend and co-writer Ayanna Lynn, venting about something that had annoyed me. I said, “She thinks she’s petty, but I can be petty too.” We had been talking about nursery rhymes earlier, and that conversation sparked the idea for the song’s intro: “We can be petty together.” From there, the rest of the song came together in just 30 minutes to an hour.
This track is catchy and real for me — a reflection of those moments when you’re just a little bit fed up and ready to match the energy coming your way. I’m so proud of what Ayanna and I created, and I can’t wait for you to hear it.
